Know the room

A round former gasholder on the Westergas site in Westerpark, now used for large ticketed concerts and club events. Awakenings and the Holland Festival were among the first to put on events there after gas production stopped.

Size

I amsterdam puts the capacity of the single circular hall at more than 3,500 visitors.

History

The Westergas works stopped supplying gas in 1967 and the building sat without a use until it was taken over for cultural events in the 1990s.

Room notes

Westergas describes one very large round interior under a cast-iron roof.
