British musician and record producer

Floating Points

Get to know the artist

Floating Points is Sam Shepherd's project across composition, electronic production and DJing. Jazz and classical ideas sit alongside club music, while his work with Eglo and Melodies International extends that curiosity into releasing and rediscovering records. The variety is central to understanding him: an album, a live show and a DJ mix offer different ways in.

How the music develops: Elaenia grew over five years; Crush was made in five weeks after solo synthesizer performances supporting The xx. That change of working method helps explain the jump from expansive composition toward more immediate, experimental electronic music.
Explore the catalogue: Begin with LesAlpx and Bias from Crush for the connection to bass and garage, then explore Elaenia for the wider compositional picture. The label's album catalogue also includes Cascade, a further chapter beyond the Crush-era biography.
